CipherMax Introduces the CM100 Product Line of New Generation Intelligent Storage Encryption Solutions
New CM100 Products Radically Simplify Storage Security Deployments at One-third the TCO
San Jose, Calif., – February 26, 2007 – CipherMax, Inc., the technology leader of enterprise-class storage security solutions, today introduced the CM100 family of storage encryption products for tape media and disk-based storage networks. The new CM100 product line offers companies a low-cost entry point for immediately implementing storage encryption, while providing the ability to scale up to hundreds of encryption ports when combined with CipherMax CM250 or CM500 systems. The CM product line marks the first storage encryption solution with intelligent features and integrated switching functionality that can be deployed and centrally managed from a single, global interface - a requirement for delivering enterprise-class storage security.
“Today’s distributed, heterogeneous computing environments require highly scalable, but unified storage security solutions that can be centrally administered,” said Ray Kao, chairman and CEO of CipherMax. “To meet enterprise strategic or tactical requirements, our CM100 products are the first line of storage encryption solutions that provide the ability to quickly and cost-effectively implement data encryption for both tape and disk, while simultaneously offering enterprises a long-term growth strategy for secure storage.”
“As companies broaden encryption services for stored data, there is a definite need for a sustainable solution that does not become unmanageable or cost-prohibitive three to five years down the road,” said Jon Oltsik, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. “The CipherMax CM product line simplifies the deployment and management of storage security by offering a highly scalable solution with a single point-of-management and the convenience of remote key administration. This functionality combined with considerably lower TCO makes a very strong value proposition.”
The CipherMax SANCruiser network management system has been enhanced to provide an intuitive access mapping scheme for security policy definition. This new access mapping process compliments the system’s unique role-based SAN and security management, which naturally separates the duties between storage and security administration. Centralized storage security management is further extended with KeyCruiser, the company’s new key lifecycle management system, which provides remote key archiving and management capabilities from anywhere in the world, without manually moving encryption keys.
“Companies are realizing that they need scalable storage security solutions that can accommodate the rapid data growth in their environments,” said Steve Norall, senior analyst at Taneja Group. “The CipherMax CM100 product line offers companies a scalable solution for storage security at an affordable price. The unique CM architecture allows companies to continue to add encryption ports to their network, without the cost and space requirements of additional appliances.”
“The CipherMax solution's ease-of-deployment has been impressive,” said Brian Cass, CTO at Sandbox Industries. “One of our portfolio companies needed a scalable storage encryption solution that could be deployed within weeks and centrally managed through single interface. The CM product line was unique in meeting all of our security criteria and was successfully implemented in a short time. We are looking forward to expanding our deployment of encryption services to include tape security through the addition of CM100T products.”
“Many companies want to deploy encryption services for part of their data storage today and then add more encryption services over time,” said Jerry Glowka, vice president of sales at INSA Corp. “The CipherMax CM100 product line offers a unique value proposition as encryption can be cost-effectively implemented for smaller, tactical projects with the flexibility to grow into a strategic storage security solution over time. We have customers that have completed qualification testing and will soon be deploying CM products. Additional companies intend to start testing soon, because they see tremendous value in CipherMax's ease-of-deployment and low TCO.”
The CipherMax CM product family offers organizations a full line of storage security products that work seamlessly together with line-speed encryption. Companies can choose the appropriate mix of CM systems for their specific storage environment, whether they need a highly distributed, enterprise-wide deployment or a simple installation.
The CipherMax CM100 family includes the following products:
CM110T, CM140T, CM180T for Tape – Secures sensitive information stored on tape media with standards-based 256-bit AES encryption and data compression in a 1U form factor. Support for up to 16 Fibre Channel ports (or 32 ports in a clustered configuration) with integrated switching function. Supports full enterprise-class encrypted tape management with media ID (barcode) to encryption key tracking and mapping services. Integrated data integrity checking compares a digital fingerprint against its stored value to ensure the data has not been altered or corrupted. In addition, these systems provide non-evasive operation in existing tape SAN and backup application environments.
CM100T products are compliant with the current IEEE P1619.1 draft standard for tape-based storage security. An inline processing architecture provides low-latency processing of compressed encrypted data for 2-4 tape drives on the CM110T. The CM140T provides 4x the encryption/compression throughput of the CM110T and the CM180T offers 8x the encryption/compression throughput. To achieve 32x the throughput, up to four CM180T can be plugged into a CM250 chassis. Up to 16 CM180T can be plugged into a CM500 chassis, offering 128x the throughput.
CM180D for Disk – A disk encryption solution that combines high performance 256-bit AES encryption of data-at-rest with an integrated switching function. Its configurable architecture supports 16 ports in a single chassis or 32 ports in a clustered configuration. The CM180D can be trunked onto an existing SAN switch for non-disruptive integration, or installed as a standalone SAN in FC switching mode. Any-to-any connectivity eliminates the need for additional FC ports to maximize the use of encrypted data throughput. The CM180D provides non-evasive operation in existing disk and primary storage environments.
The CM180D provides the highest degree of flexible configuration available. Automatic zone detection and optional LUN masking and remapping reduce setup time and mitigate the possibility of configuration errors in security policies. High performance encryption engines provide in-line encryption for multiple FC connections at line speed with low latency (usec). Up to four CM180D can be plugged into a CM250 chassis and up to 16 CM180D can be plugged into a CM500 chassis.
SANCruiser – A secure, graphical interface allows users to centralize SAN and security management for thousands of data encryption ports within a global, distributed network. A GUI-enabled navigation tool auto-discovers SAN components and settings at every level of the Fibre Channel fabric topology using real-time map displays. Existing zones and LUNs are automatically discovered and are not changed, deleted, or reconfigured. SANCruiser can be used exclusively to manage security integrated with 3rd party SAN management tools or used as a standalone SAN and security management platform.
KeyCruiser – A key lifecycle management system that ensures data recoverability with centralized encryption key management. Users manage keys from a secure user interface, which can be accessed remotely. Software-based system that stores cryptographically wrapped keys, offering a more secure, less expensive solution that can be deployed anywhere without security risks. Centrally manages thousands of encryption keys, security policies and system configurations with secure, automated backup and offsite repository. KeyCruiser works with the entire CM family of products and supports automated security database backup and key migration between security domains.
